Cheng Ren is a Ph.D. student in Social Welfare and Designated Emphasis in Computational and Data Science and Engineering Program. He is also a Senior Data Science Fellow at D-Lab. He is interested in using data science to explore topics related to housing stability, eviction issue, nonprofit development. Previously, Cheng has worked on several projects in this field, including the foreclosure status in Cleveland, OH, Spatial Mismatch for Immigrant Services for BIMI at UC Berkeley, school expenditure map for DonorsChoose, NLP for immigrant organization detection.
The project aims to understand the nature of gentrification, and displacement, and exclusion in American cities. It focuses on creating tools to help communities identify the pressures surrounding them and take more effective action.
