James is a recent graduate of the Masters of City Planning program and is interested in various anti-displacement strategies, particularly affordable housing development. Before graduate school, James worked for TransForm, a transportation advocacy and community planning non-profit. He is committed to making the planning process more equitable for vulnerable communities – particularly immigrants and low income populations. James has spent his entire life in the Bay Area – growing up in Hayward and receiving his Bachelors degrees from UC Berkeley. He now works in affordable housing development in the East Bay.
The project aims to understand the nature of gentrification, and displacement, and exclusion in American cities. It focuses on creating tools to help communities identify the pressures surrounding them and take more effective action.
