Joy graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Master of City Planning in May 2019. Through a variety of work and research placements in public and private institutions in the United States and her native France, she gained experience in planning and international development, with a strong focus on transportation. She came to Berkeley on a Fulbright scholarship after obtaining a master’s degree in Science and Executive Engineering from MINES ParisTech, with the aim of broadening her appreciation of urban planning challenges in international settings and designing sustainable transportation systems that work for all. Her graduate research focused on microtransit in San Francisco. She now works on micromobility in Europe and Latin America.
The project aims to understand the nature of gentrification, and displacement, and exclusion in American cities. It focuses on creating tools to help communities identify the pressures surrounding them and take more effective action.
