Julia earned a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies and Planning from San Francisco State University in 2013 with an emphasis on planning issues related to environmental justice. Her desire to develop a deeper knowledge on how planning can evolve into a field that successfully supports and prioritizes the well-being of vulnerable communities led her to get her Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning at Portland State University in 2017. During the program, she developed skills in GIS and data management and analysis that now allow her to pursue mapping projects that fall within her interests.
The project aims to understand the nature of gentrification, and displacement, and exclusion in American cities. It focuses on creating tools to help communities identify the pressures surrounding them and take more effective action.
