Karolina’s research interests focus on social, economic, and political issues in urban planning, adaptive reuse, and historic preservation. Her dissertation work examined the socioeconomic impacts of historic districts on neighborhood change and gentrification in Los Angeles.
Karolina received her Ph.D. in 2015 from UCLA in the Department of Urban Planning. She holds a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and a BA in Architecture from Wellesley College. Currently, Karolina works on long-range community planning for the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning.
The project aims to understand the nature of gentrification, and displacement, and exclusion in American cities. It focuses on creating tools to help communities identify the pressures surrounding them and take more effective action.
