Taesoo (he/him) is a Ph.D. Student in City and Regional Planning at UC Berkeley. He is interested in the role of housing policy and neighborhood planning in promoting more equitable and socially just urban and community development, particularly for low-income and minority households.
Before starting his Ph.D. program, Taesoo worked as a researcher for the Seoul Institute, where he investigated the ongoing gentrification in Seoul’s Historic Downtown area, its impacts on local businesses and residents, and strategies for more inclusive growth. He has also worked for multiple research projects related to local economic development efforts in South Korea.
Taesoo holds a B.A. in Economics and M.S. in Urban Planning and Engineering from Yonsei University.
The project aims to understand the nature of gentrification, and displacement, and exclusion in American cities. It focuses on creating tools to help communities identify the pressures surrounding them and take more effective action.
